By effectively
managing your technology-based training vendor you can optimize
the chances for a successful project. Use this checklist when
launching your next project.
Vendor
Selection
- Vendor
is not just a multimedia or Web company, but has experience
in instructional design.
- Vendor
will turn over source code for maintenance.
- Vendor
will share copyright on content.
- Vendor
does not use black box or engine.
- Vendor
uses standard programming language such as Authorware, Director,
Toolbook, IconAuthor, or Quest.
- Vendor
has full-time, on-site staff for all critical project tasks.
Proposal
Process
- The
Request for Proposal is detailed in its specifications (see
Appendix A).
- Along
with prices, proposals specify the quantity and quality
of media, interactivity, and content.
- Winning
solution is judged on quality of firm's work, strength of
company, dedication to customer service, price, and quality
of proposal itself.
Project
Management
- Vendor
is providing a single point-of-contact project manager.
- Weekly
progress meetings are held.
- Detailed
project schedule is created and routinely reviewed.
- A prototype
is created, tested, refined, and finalized early in the
development process.
- Major
content changes are made in scripts and storyboards.
- Development
process parallels the Instructional Systems Design process.
