e-Learning Dashboard
Makes You Rich, Smart, and Handsome!

OK, maybe I'm stretching it a bit. But look what Amy has to say...

"The dashboard is one of the coolest pages I've seen. I've sent it to the entire team -- it's something we can use daily." -- Amy Graft, PhD.

Over 500 of you are now visiting the Dashboard each day for one-stop viewing of all the day's e-learning news and information. Just added Edu RSS News Ticker (thanks Stephen!) and many new blogs.

WiMax (wireless broadband) Available in 2006
Huge Boon to Mobile Learning

Mobile learning, workflow learning, learning (truly) on demand -- whatever you want to call it -- is building momentum but needs wireless high-speed connectivity for the holy grail to really arrive. The 802.16 standard is the WiFi technology that works across hundreds of meters, rather than a few hundred feet like today's common WiFi technology. Vendor conference pegs roll-out date of this critical technology in 2006.

Flash "Commercials" that Promote Your e-Learning

Have you created an exciting Flash-based "commercial" announcing your new LMS, e-learning course or other offering? Do you have an innovative e-mail teaser you sent to your learners to get them excited about learning?

If so, I'd love to see it. I'm building a new Showcase page on Guru and would like to start by hosting some great examples of e-learning marketing pieces. If you have something worth sharing with the world e-mail me the file or link at kkruse@e-learningguru.com.

Webcast: State of the E-conferencing Industry

Conferzone is holding their first state of the industry webcast with five industry gurus. "The e-conferencing industry has experienced drastic changes in the last few years due to major world events, such as the economic downturn, 9-11, and the war in Iraq. These events and the broad application of e-conferencing have catapulted this industry to the forefront. The industry is moving at the speed of light and the users are left to make technology decisions and deal with adoption issues of an ever moving target.

During this Web event, ConferZone's Industry Board of experts will debate where we are and where we are going. Join these panel members as they address the major issues facing this industry and give you some insight on what the future holds."

Shortage of Instructional Designers in India

The Times of India published an article on June 17 (can't link to it because seems to be lost in the ether...) describing the boom in the off-shore e-learning industry, but notes that there is a severe shortage of instructional designers. India does not have colleges or universities that offer Instructional design and technology courses the way many schools in the United States do. Planting seeds to remedy this problem Brainvisa and the Symbiosis Institute of Mass Communication (SIMC) have partnered to begin offering advanced studies in instructional design.

If you read the article carefully (and do a little currency conversion) it's also interesting and revealing to note that the salary ranges for many e-learning positions are about one fifth of what they are here in the States.

Thanks to Ankush Gupta at Brainvisa for sending this my way. Read an excerpt of the article by clicking here.

First Annual "Games for Health" Conference

Judy Brown, an emerging technology analyst, sent me a great note and mentioned that first ever Games for Health conference will be held in September in one of my favorite towns, Madison, WI.
