Why Discovery Learning Doesn’t Work
New paper from the great Richard Clark of USC, as well as Kirschner and Sweller. Official, provocative title "Why Minimal Guidance During Instruction Does Not Work: An Analysis of the Failure of Constructivist, Discovery, Problem-Based, Experiential, and Inquiry-Based Teaching"

Self Directed Learning in Digital Age
This massive report from Australian government. Executive summary is manageable. Interesting content, including this powerful and whacky opening quote written in 1938:

You may grow old and trembling in your anatomies, you may lie awake at night listening to the disorder in your veins, you may miss your only love and lose your monies to a monster, you may see the world about you devastated by evil lunatics, or know your honour trampled in the sewers of baser minds. There is only one thing for it, then—to learn.

Goal Setting and Online Learning
I view goal setting as the #1 factor in success in anything and have been a wonk on goal research for awhile. "Goal Setting in Online Courses" is a good overview to the big thinkers and research and good links for more info.

New site TeachersPayTeachers.com
Designed to be an eBay for K-12 curriculum plans and teaching materials. Members upload materials and set their own price. Why don't we do the same for corporate trainers? Got an activity to share/sell? Link.

E-Learning 2006 Conference - Save 10%
If you want to explore how to link e-learning strategies with e-learning technology, check out this IQPC event. I can't make it myself due to a schedule conflict but my friends and former clients Ted Lehne of Delta and Kee Meng Yeo of J&J are sure to deliver great sessions. They'll be joined by peers from Home Depot, IBM, Oracle, Accenture and others. Use the Guru promo code EL99 and they'll give you a 10% discount. Click here for full conference info.
